Edward wants to eat Bella, and Bella has some disturbing, lust-filled crush. In all four books, they never sit down and say “So, what do you want to do today?”
In fact, from the series, all I could tell you about Edward is that he ‘loves’ (read: wants to eat) Bella. Apart from an obsessing over…
Agreed. The Twilight Series is pretty much a series detailing an abusive relationship — Edward, at one point, disables Bella’s car so she can’t leave her house. Against her will. Imprisoning her. This sounds like an abusive relationship to me.
I don’t know why this is something we condone as appropriate literature for young women or why we act like this sort of relationship is even a little bit okay. Because it’s not. Not at all.
Give the girls Prodigal Summer, The Red Tent, The Poisonwood Bible, anything by Maya Angelou, Alice in Wonderland, something. Oh, wait, those books aren’t approprite for young girls.
…neither is Twilight.
